NAVAL SPOOKS - "CT SAND CRABS"
The Sabana Seca (NSGA-SS) consisted of primarily 2 tracts of land that totaled over 2200 acres. The SOUTH TRACT was just over 900 acres and was first used as a naval base in 1941. At that time it was an ammunition depot, and after WWII it was de-activated.
In 1948, the base at Sabana Seca took on a new look. The USNAVCOMMSTA, PUERTO RICO was established. During its years as a communications station, some of the buildings that existed in the 1930s and 1940s were used by the Navy.

One if the buildings that survived from the WWII period and was used by the Navy was the Quarterdeck Building. This was known as building 1. The Administration building was known as building 2.

The above picture is a view of the Navy Exchange on the base. This building pre-dated the WWII buildings that the Navy constructed. I believe that this was originally a storage barn on the farm that stood on the Sabana Seca site prior to the Navy taking over the site.

This is a photograph of the officers barracks at Sabana Seca. There were several barracks units (all looking similar to this) that were used by the Navy and Marine enlisted personnel stationed here, except that they were two stories high, for the most part.
