NAVAL SPOOKS - "CT SAND CRABS"

The North Tract of the Sabana Seca Naval Communications Site consisted  of 1300 plus acres of land.  Unlike the south tract, which was mainly the administrative buildings and the barracks, the north tract contained the business end of the communications site.  This website will not elaborate on what the business end consisted of, but will show a couple of photographs of the site to jog the memories of the naval spooks that were stationed at Sabana Seca.

SAN PATRICIO NAVAL HOUSING PROJECT

IN CAPARRA HEIGHTS, PUERTO RICO

This is a photograph of me in the backyard of C-11-B, putting up a short wave antenna.  The housing in the project was WWII construction which were all duplexes.  The buildings were supposed to be condemned after the war, but were still in use in the mid to late 1960s and probably a long time after that.  At night, if one was to get up and put on a light, you would see many cocroaches run for the safety of the walls and partitions, but for the time being - it was HOME .

Front of C-11-B duplex unit.  The closest part of the building to the road was a screened in porch, and the rest of the building was the living quarters.

Many of the naval spooks that could not get into the San Patricio Naval Housing rented housing in Levittown, Puerto Rico.  This housing development was just off the north shore highway, west of San Juan Harbor.

In the mid to late 1960s, the houses in Levittown were new and could be rented at a somewhat reasonable monthly rate. The above photo shows the outside of one of the two bedroom houses, and the below picture shows the inside / kitchen area.  The people in the picture are (L-R) my mother, myself, CT(M ) Butch Armendt, and his wife Mary.
